Karine Hains: Looking Ahead: Brendan Gallagher and Some News It’s the dawn of a new season and the dawn of a new era for Brendan Gallagher, his linemates are gone and he is no longer a steal money wise, he must produce to deserve his $6.5 M salary.

just like the KK offer sheet, I'm sure Bergevin was expecting what happened to Mailloux. gotta wonder still what the train of thought was behind the pick...

The worse MB off season, and that says a lot after the Alzner summer (and other bad off-season decisions).

not good so far for sure. I try to chill a bit on the criticism because he's done a lot of good moves also but those tend to be easily forgotten lol

Unlike the Alzner off season this summer will be more of what he did not do (eg sign Danault) vs what he did do

just bizarre.

Not sure what the expected outcome here was, really.

either:
Montreal is paying too much for a 3rd line center

or

Montreal gave up on one of their youngest, and most promising, players

I would agree with you on the 2nd part if we don’t have Suzuki or Caufield

Point is right now I will be indifferent not retaining him than 2 years ago when he first came in to the NHL when he showed more promise

In his 171 NHL games, he's played less than 16 minutes in 150 of those. 30 point pace for a guy getting 3rd line minutes is fine.

a bridge deal made more sense for him, but I guess it's the point of an offer sheet

Yep. If you actually want to get the player you have to give them a contract that the team that owns their rights either can't or doesn't want to pay. Problem is that makes it kind of an ugly contract for your own team too.

hello Karine,
I'm not worried. in the past many turned on skilled players not because the goals weren't there, but because the effort wasn't there. something we will never have to worry about regarding Gallagher. he could score only 20 per year, if he works his ass off day in day out like he always did... he'll still be a fan favorite.

I agree, for an offer sheet to work, you need to offer over the market… significantly over the market…. Offer sheet to Aho was not over the market…. Yes the front loaded was the strategy but globally, the salary was very aligned with the value of the player…. This is where Bergevin screwed-up…. If he would have offer $9M per year front loaded, maybe the Canes would have passed…. KK offer is way over the market and this is why it could work…. For Bergevin to be able to land such a stupid offer for Aho, tells me a lot about the leadership style he has, how Molson is weak and how the people working for them are just bunch of yes men…. So pathetic…

Do you think Mailloux can play for the Bordeaux or Kingston penitentiary team?

MB is not bold enough to front load Aho as he is too cap conscious on his team while not understanding his counterpart’s situation. We really need a new GM to steer this team around
